An oldie, but a goodie, I've used this zine as a tool in art/craft workshops for kids (aged 6-12) and adults. Everyone who had a go made something beautiful, unique and surprising - and had heaps of fun along the way! For the grown ups, it was usually the people who declared they 'weren't creative' and 'couldn't draw' who made the most beautiful, free marks. Less expectation seemed to lead to more fun and happy accidents...
The best memory I have from workshops with kids is when one session became completely derailed after a few hours, and everyone starting drawing interpretations of Billy Bob Thorton from the movie 'Bad Santa' instead (I think one of the older kids had been allowed to watch it and started this trend). It wasn't what anyone was meant to be doing, but everyone was having a great time and lots of laughs. There was every kind of 'Bad Santa' possible - 'Army Bad Santa'; 'Harry Potter Bad Santa'; 'Nude Bad Santa'; 'Old Bad Santa'; 'Gassy Bad Santa'...
You can print the zine as an A5 booklet if you have a desktop printer at home, and every second page is blank if you want to stick your creations in after they are done like some of the examples below. Most of the materials needed can be found around the house (bleach, food dye, blu tac, sponges, scrap paper).
